Dr Miles Ellis of Matlock Area U3A is able to speak at U3A meetings anywhere in the East Midlands Region about his visit to Burma earlier this year under the title "An Englishman's First Impressions of Burma". The talk, which includes over 300 photographs and lasts for around one hour, is not a travelogue, although it does cover many of the main tourist sights, but is rather my impressions of the country, its culture and its people.  This short document gives more details in case anyone is interested.  He would like to emphasise that all of the fee will go to help the children in the small village of Ye Ngan East in central Burma, where he sponsoring a young girl through ActionAid's Child Sponsorship scheme.

Annual Regional Conference
As we get well into our U3A year and as we are now within six months of The Third Age Trust’s National Conference and AGM, our minds need to turn to such things as the election of a Regional Trustee for the East Midlands for next year.

There may have been some lack of clarity on this subject in the past, so the present Regional Trustee, Michaela Moody has prepared this document: Electoral Procedure 2013 - Regional Trustee which is endorsed by Alan Morris, Chair of East Midlands Region of U3As and sets out the position very clearly.

This is a matter which concerns nearly all of us so please give this important document your careful attention and, in the event of any questions you may have, please do not hesitate to contact the East Midlands U3As' secretary Gill Childs so that the matter can be taken up for you. The email address is  secretary@eastmidlandsu3as.org.uk
